Final Presentation

Since I don’t like embedding a downloaded version of slides, I just screenshot each slide with a short explanation. A outline of my presentation. I always have this idea of using different kinds of media and materials to discuss the relationship between people and emerging technologies. Initially, my idea of creating a ‘face-like’ shape by…

Invitation for Table Installation

When I first started my project, I had this notion of virtual connection. People love talking to other online.  Your actual words are coded and transferred to others via cables. Thus, I have this idea of writing down my invitation and hang it on the connecting string in my artwork. Two versions were videotaped. One…

Code a Movie using Math

I use POV-ray and vector spaces, Bezier Curvesto to create each object, background, and calculate the movement of objects and even camera view changes.

Finishing up

Finally, my project came to an ending phase. In the end, I added more dimensions by connecting more foils balls between different backdrops. I also filled my entire backdrops with more brown paper. Dimension: Look up & down

After trying out different sorts of materials, I enjoyed the notion of ‘undo-table’ or ‘de-physical’. Thus, I used all sorts of materials and played with textures to cover the table. However, I did feel this is not complete or holistic in this chaotic background. Following Nell’s suggestion, I decided to add some backdrops to make…

Companion: Materials

This week, we started the final project of 3D thinking: GATHERING.  Since I didn’t settle on one specific idea, I started this project by visiting some art stores. I knew I want some materials that are dynamic and flowing, which could create a large scale. Ultimately, I want to create an immersive experience for the…

1113 Context/Material/Sound/Performance

Context: Fred Wilson Fred Wilson is an artist with a keen to the beauty and ugliness, especially the re-definition of these two contrast terms. Although with a studio art background, he claimed that creating new contexts for the existing art and artifacts in the museum is more fascinating. By only manipulating the position of chairs, lighting, and…

1020 -Wrapping Wild

Joining the workshop with environmental artist Bryant Holsenbeck, we created all sorts of wildlife animals and other forms by using cast-off fabric, yarn, and broken buttons and beads on a wonderful Saturday morning.  As an environmental artist, she believes the power of transforming daily mundane ‘garbage’ into something ‘surprises’ people.  Instead of hiding all the…
